The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
, Chairman of the State Duma, and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly
of Turkey Mustafa Şentop agreed at a bilateral meeting that the format of the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments on Countering Terrorism and Strengthening Regional Connectivity should be expanded, its work should be
structured and concrete decisions should be made. This format has shown its
effectiveness, the Chairman of the State Duma believes. “The basis of today's
dialogue is a three-year road,” he stressed.
Viacheslav Volodin also pointed out that working on decisions and common approaches to the fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking it is necessary to involve specialized committees of parliaments.
The Chairman of the State Duma emphasized that it is necessary to deal with this, since “it is often advantageous for the United States of America when tension points are created in our regions, when these problems slow us down, weaken us, create conditions to make it easier to interfere in the affairs of our countries, the region of Greater Eurasia.”
Viacheslav Volodin noted the double standards of the United States, who do not recognize terrorist organizations that are considered such in our countries. “This creates threats to our countries,” he said.
“These are double standards, we consider this unacceptable,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
He called for “the development of mechanisms that will allow us to fight against such double standards,” as well as interference in the affairs of sovereign states.
“Only a strong sovereign state can resist terrorism. We need to do everything to prevent interference in the affairs of sovereign states and their destruction,” said the Chairman of the State Duma and urged not to allow the repetition of what happened to Iraq and Libya in Syria. We must pay attention to the culture, history, and tradition of states, he believes.
“It is the parliamentary dimension that can allow us to achieve such results,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
Mustafa Şentop emphasized that over three years the participating countries have reached consensus and constructiveness. He believes that expanding the number of participants of the Conference will benefit the event and increase its quality and level.
Earlier in the morning, a meeting between the Chairman of the State Duma and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was held.
