Chairman of the State Duma: the USA applies the principle of “divide and rule” to Ukraine

Viacheslav Volodin said this at a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér. The Chairman of the State Duma noted that this is an unfair principle, and trust is necessary for the development of relations between countries

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
noted that “in 2017, we all saw how the right of citizens to learn their native language was violated in Ukraine.”

“This affected the Russians, Poles, Hungarians, representatives of other nationalities. We believe that this unacceptable,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. Viacheslav Volodin emphasized that when Crimea returned to the Russian Federation, the first decisions made by the President of our country were related to language equality, and now Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages are officially used in Crimea.

“The Ukrainian authorities have taken the path of violating the rights of citizens,” said Viacheslav Volodin. He noted that only time would tell what steps the new leadership of Ukraine would take. The Chairman of the State Duma pointed out that these steps should primarily be associated with the protection of the rights of national minorities, believers that represent various faiths and movements.

“In my opinion, this will not be easy and quick, since the United States initially prepared different role for this nation and country, it created tension in the center of Europe, trying to weaken some countries and create problems between the once united people,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

“Divide and rule” is a principle that is used in politics, but it is fraught with the fact that sooner or later it will return to those who are guided by it, and this principle is unfair to those to whom it is applied.

He believes that without the actions of the Ukrainian authorities the problems cannot be solved, and everything must be done to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, to create conditions for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

There is no enough dialogue in the world

Viacheslav Volodin noted that László Kövér ”is one of those politicians who advocate common sense, a middle ground and oppose extremes.“ He said that such an approach appealed to Russia, and the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments was based on them. “The Asian and European parliaments are very interested in it,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

“Today, there is no enough trust in the world, and its absence affects the development of relations between countries. The international institutions that did a lot to address issues, including in the spheres of global security and environmental protection, have been criticized. This happened because they stopped discussing topics and issues that concern countries and the entire world community in a dialogue mode,” the Chairman of the State Duma said. He stressed those countries that consider themselves to be a model of democracy “constantly say that it is necessary to follow their standards, but these standards do not apply to themselves.”

László Kövér said that Hungary is a hostage to the European policy of sanctions. “We are interested in the Russian market,” he pointed out.

“It is impossible to resolve negative trends and tensions in world politics without developing dialogue,” László Kövér emphasized.

“Now there are countries that have arrogated to themselves the exclusive right to democracy, and they believe that their understanding of democracy is the only right one,” he agreed with Viacheslav Volodin. László Kövér noted that he considers such a situation completely unacceptable, and this approach is unproductive.

Viacheslav Volodin believes that the task of parliamentarians is “to do everything in the framework of the Meeting so that we can hear each other, discuss issues that concern all countries,” and also draft model laws.

“It would be right to take into account opinion and point of view of a country, regardless of its size, on events that take place in the world,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
