The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
and member of the Bundestag, Chairperson of the Socialists group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Frank Schwabe took place
in the State Duma on Thursday, September 19.
The parties discussed the current situation in PACE. Viacheslav Volodin emphasized that “the PACE activities should be based on the principles of equality and non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states, and the results of the work of monitoring commissions should not be turned into a political assessment of the situation in one country for the sake of others. First of all, PACE is a parliamentary, not a political, structure, therefore, the Assembly needs to give priority to the harmonization of the laws of the member states of the Council of Europe and the drafting model laws. This is required to respond to the common challenges facing the countries of the Council of Europe.”
Before that Frank Schwabe held meetings with members of the State Duma. In June 2019, he was one of those who voted for the adoption of a resolution confirming the credentials of the Russian delegation to PACE.
