“The position of the State Duma remains unchanged, it is necessary to consider the issue related to those forces developing Russophobia, that are against our country and trying to seize power in Georgia, and in this regard, we proposed specific measures that we could take: a ban on remittances , ban on mineral water and wine import,” said Viacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

to parliamentary journalists.

“We have expressed our point of view, the President has the right to express his own view,” said the Chairman of the State Duma, responding to a question of journalists whether the position of the State Duma on an earlier adopted statement has changed after the comment of President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier on Tuesday, Vladimir Putin did not support imposition of sanctions against Georgia, proposed by Russian parliamentarians. “For the sake of restoring full-fledged relations, I would not do anything to complicate our relations,” he said.

Viacheslav Volodin expressed the opinion that Vladimir Putin, by his refusal to impose sanctions against Georgia, gives the authorities of this country a chance to come to their senses.

“They should listen to our President Vladimir V. Putin. He gives them a chance again. Because we, representatives of the people of Russia, do not give them such a chance,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. “And he gives them a chance to come to their senses,” he added.

At the same time, Viacheslav Volodin stressed that the decision of the State Duma is related to the need to protect Russia's national interests.

“We say just what we feel, representing the interests of our people and acting only in the interests of our country. We support the President. The President talks about the need to overcome this situation. And he said several times about that to representatives of the Georgian leadership. But we see the contrary. Therefore, we consider it necessary in this situation to protect our President, our state and citizens of our country from assaults,” he said.
