On Tuesday, June 18, at a plenary meeting, the State Duma adopted the Federal Law on the suspension by the Russian Federation of the Treaty Between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the Elimination of Their Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles. It was introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He reminded that ”the law gives the head of state the right at any time to decide on the full renewal of the INF Treaty if the situation changes and the United States starts again to fulfill its obligations.“
“We make this decision based on the need to protect our national interests. The United States of America decided unilaterally to suspend the Treaty, putting the entire system of global security at risk,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
