“Today’s

of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council (the event will be held on May 20 in Bishkek – Editor Note),” Viacheslav Volodin addressed Dastan Jumabekov. “You
are organizing the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly, and of course it is
extremely important for us to discuss a number of issues that will be raised
tomorrow.” The Chairman of the State Duma noted that the issues of harmonization
of legislation and the convergence of the positions of the two countries are
among the topics on the agenda. Furthermore, for the Russian parliamentary
delegation it is important to know the vision of the Kyrgyz colleagues on the priorities of the CSTO development, the Chairman of the State Duma added.
Volodin also touched upon the development of bilateral relations between Moscow and Bishkek.
“We have something to be proud of … Last year our trade increased significantly, it grew by 17 percent,” he said.
The volume of mutual trade reached almost 1.9 billion dollars, while, according to the objectives for the development of business relations set by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Sooronbay Jeenbekov, this figure should reach 2 billion.
“In 2018, the volume of Russian business investments in Kyrgyzstan’s economy increased by 25 percent, the number of cargo shipments to Russia increased by a third — all these indicate that relations between our countries are developing, relations are becoming stronger,” the Chairman stressed.
In his turn, Dastan Jumabekov noted that holding a meeting of the CSTO PA Council in the Kyrgyz Republic is an “honorable mission” for the country.
“We greatly appreciate the high level of the strategic partnership between our countries. Steady ties between countries are also supported by regular reciprocal visits at all levels. So, in March Vladimir Putin visited Kyrgyzstan, during this visit a package of agreements aimed at strengthening Russian-Kyrgyz cooperation was signed,” he reminded.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The event will be held in Bishkek on May 20. Parliaments from the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus participate in the CSTO PA.
