to journalists.
“Poroshenko’s election campaign slogans were about the army, language and the church. People did not support his position on the actions of the armed forces in the South-East of the country. They did not support the position on the Russian language. They were outraged by the split of the Orthodox Church,” he noted.
“The voters considered him as unable to solve their socio-economic issues, as the head of the state who was unable to bring the people together due to the problems that even more intensified with his direct involvement in interreligious, interethnic, language issues. Another result of this vote is an assessment of Poroshenko’s inability to build constructive relations with Russia,” stressed Viacheslav Volodin.
“The election of [Volodymyr] Zelensky indicates the desire of Ukrainian citizens to change something. And what exactly to change, is still hard to say. It is obvious that the United States will do everything to ensure that Ukraine remains an area of tension and problems. This is beneficial to the United States, but bad for Ukrainian citizens,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
