The decision of the Ukrainian authorities to mark the birthday of Stepan Bandera is a desecration of the memory of all those killed by the Ukrainian nationalists, said Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutskiy Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine previously adopted a resolution on the celebration of memorable dates and anniversaries in 2019, the list includes the 110th anniversary of the birth of the leader of the “Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists” (OUN, militant formations of the UPA is banned in the Russian Federation) Stepan Bandera.

“The establishment of a national holiday in Ukraine to celebrate Bandera’s birthday is a desecration over the memory of all those killed by Ukrainian nationalists. Bandera’s supporters were real henchmen of Hitler's fascists. I will not be surprised if the same things continue to happen, that soon Ukrainian authorities will decide to celebrate the birthday of Adolf Hitler. Bandera is inherently exactly the same criminal. There is hardly a similar bloody hangman in the entire history of Ukraine,” Mr. Slutskiy told reporters.

The parliamentarian also told about those who “gained power in the Verkhovna Rada”.

“They do not care about their people, the memory of their ancestors, the universal values. As well as their tutors in the West do, who use Ukraine only as a tool of pressure on Russia and to distort the image of our country in the world,” he concluded.
