Statements of the US Secretary of State about the violation of the INF Treaty by Russia were commented in the State Duma

Head of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutskiy stated that using such accusations, the American authorities are trying, first of all, to strengthen the effect of their statements, not to find the truth. The parliamentarian noted that it was the United States that for the last few years had been engaged in testing of target-missiles for the missile defense system, which, according to the general opinion of specialists, are actually medium-range missiles

commented on Mike Pompeo’s statements about the violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty by the Russian Federation and noted that “overseas, the main principle of Goebbels’s propaganda, to seek not the truth, but the effect, was learned too well”.

“And the effect is the following: firstly, the image of “aggressive Russia” receives another confirmation, and secondly, the Americans will withdraw from the INF Treaty (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty – editor’s note), accusing us of not fulfilling the conditions of the ultimatum,” the member of the State Duma believes.

Leonid Slutskiy also stressed that Russia was repeatedly accused of violating the treaty, “although our “strategic friends” should look at themselves: it was the United States that for the last few years had been engaged in testing target-missiles for the missile defense system, which, according to experts, are actually medium-range missiles.“

The Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs appealed to a common sense of Washington, and also noted that he considers Moscow’s position ”absolutely correct“.

On December 4, at the end of a meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member states in Brussels US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington would stop adhering to its obligations under the INF Treaty in 60 days unless Moscow returns to compliance with the agreement.

In his turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters that the American side did not present any evidence of Russia's alleged violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.
