Vasilii Piskarev: agreements on enhanced cooperation with Iranian parliamentarians have been reached

After the visit of the State Duma delegation to Iran, Chairman of the Committee on Security and Corruption Control Vasilii Piskarev, stated that during the meetings, parties reached full mutual understanding and demonstrated mutual willingness to develop the inter-parliamentary cooperation. According to the parliamentarian, in particular, it was proposed to continue the discussion of measures to counter drug proliferation. Iranian colleagues were also invited to pay a reciprocal visit to Moscow

during the visit to Iran held a number of working meetings., Parliamentarians held talks and had a detailed conversation in the Prosecutor-General's office of the Islamic Republic of Iran with Attorney-General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri.

During the visit the delegation also visited the Iranian Ministry of Interior and was met by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior of Iran Hossein Zolfaghari.

The parties discussed at the meetings the possibility of exchanging experience and expanding cooperation on the modernization of legislation in accordance with the requirements of the 21st century in order to provide an adequate response to new challenges and threats that the modern world is facing.

On the same day, the members of the Russian delegation visited the Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran and held talks with the Secretary General the Drug Control Headquarters Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni.

After the meeting the head of the Russian parliamentary delegation Vasilii Piskarev told Iranian journalists that he was satisfied with the outcome of the visit. During the meetings, parties reached full mutual understanding and demonstrated mutual willingness to develop the inter-parliamentary cooperation. Vasilii Piskarev said that Iranian colleagues were also invited to pay a reciprocal visit to Moscow. In particular, it is proposed to continue the discussion of measures to counter drug proliferation.

“We should struggle it only together,” Vasilii Piskarev stressed, “together with Iran, China, Turkey, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Only then we can achieve significant results in ensuring regional security in the Middle East and ,as a result, in the suppression of international terrorism. Today we have taken another step towards our further cooperation. I am grateful to our colleagues for a frank and very constructive conversation.”
