The Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) contributed to the reinstatement of the rights of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). First Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on International Affairs, the Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova Zhurova Svetlana Sergeevna Zhurova
Svetlana Sergeevna
expressed such opinion in a phone interview to the ”Duma TV“.

”At the moment I am absolutely positive about the decision of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency on the RUSADA reinstatement. Undoubtedly, there are certain conditions that we need to fulfill, but I am sure that the agreements on them have already been achieved,“ said Svetlana Zhurova.

”I would especially like to say words of gratitude to the IOC Athletes’ Commission, because, most likely, the members of this Executive Committee reacted positively to the recommendations given by this Commission,“ added Zhurova.

The parliamentarian also stressed that for the Russian Federation the reinstatement of the rights of the anti-doping agency is ”an opportunity to demonstrate to the whole world once again that our sport has cleared itself of those moments that we had, that all the criticism that was presented to us, we took into account“.

The First Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on International Affairs is sure that ”if RUSADA works at full strength on the territory of such a large country as Russia, it means that all anti-doping rules will be followed“.

On September 20, the WADA Executive Committee acknowledged RUSADA compliance to the World Anti-Doping Code. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency was recognized non-compliant to the Code in 2015.
